Race Report For Friday June 21. Scottsdale, AZ to Chula
Vista, CA

Friday. The last really difficult
trial day of over 450 miles through hot, hot deserts and steep mountain
climbs and we didn't do it. We were up and out and ready with a new
water pump which lasted for all of about 20 minutes before crashing.
So we did what we had to do…call the sweep truck and tell them where we
were. They came and loaded our car on their trailer and put us in
the truck and we started the long journey to Chula Vista in air conditioned
comfort while our running mates were driving in 115 degree temperatures.
Yes. Really that hot today around Phoenix and into Gila Bend, one
of our break spots.
Finally, we got to the hotel and
had time to grab a quick hamburger and make plans for tomorrow. Jerry
and Dave are working on the car, reinstalling the old water pump that leaked
a little but hopefully will last us until we can get to Anaheim, even if
we have to stop and keep pouring fluids in every few minutes. We
are going to give it our best effort.
